Posted on September 25th, 2009 by admin

eat these things

fried lice
peanut booger sandwhiches
goat boogers
vinegar shakes
anchovied ants
pickled peaches
orange ottors on blue bread
purple strawberries
if you dine out only go to jack or jims place or alices resturant and only listen to arlo guthries music

Sounds like a great way to diet to me.

Yeah I’d do the Guthrie thing and at Alices I can get anything I want exceptin Alice.

Has anyone tried any items on the Applebee’s Weight Watcher menu?

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin

If you have, what did you try and was it any good? I’m looking to try eat a little healthier while dining out, and figured this would be a good way to start! Thank you!

Well I work there, so I’ve tried many of the items, and I agree with a couple of the ones that jamison recommended.
My personal favorite is the steak and portobellos, which you can get cooked to order. I don’t know if at other restaurants that they automatically to it to med/med well, but I always ask my guest what their preference is. I also always let them know ahead of time that it is a smaller steak than they may be used to, being a 4 oz sirloin (after being YELLED at by a guest, I decided to start "warning" people what they were in for!) Also, keep in mind that since it is a smaller steak, it can be hard to get it really RARE, but we do our best!
The cajun lime tilapia is one of the most popular items, across the whole menu really, not even just weight watchers.
The confetti chicken is good, similar to the fiesta lime chicken that we have on the regular menu. It is a smaller portion, made with a low fat salsa ranch instead of our mexiranch dressing, and low fat cheese instead of regular.
The italian chicken and portobello sandwich is my other usual choice. It’s fairly simple, but good.
I would tend to agree with staying away from the steak skewers, it isn’t the highest quality meat we have, and if you want steak, I would definitely go with the steak and portobellos. The teriyaki shrimp skewers are good, though.

Across the board, I think there are some solid options on there, but I would advise you to keep in mind that they ARE low fat/low cal dishes. They are very portion conscious, with (for the entrees) 4 oz of protien, a large side of broccoli, and a side of either rice pilaf or steamed herb potatoes (with the steak). We will be happy to make accommodations for any requests, but of course, we can’t guarantee points on those! :)

Hope this helps! and good luck with eating healthier!

How is shopping/dining/nightlife in Quepos/Manuel Antonio?

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin

I am vacationing in Costa Rica and am staying in Manuel Antonio/Quepos area. I was going to choose Jaco but am concerned about drug/crime scene. I know Quepos is quieter but is there really not much of a social/entertainment scene there? I would like to do the outdoor activities during the day but would love to dine, shop, and bar hop at night. Thanks!

I love Quepos. First time I went there, it was on a dirt road. The best thing about Quepos is inexpensive compared to Manuel Antonio which is a stones throw away.

Quepos has a very good social/entertainment scene (nowhere as crazy as Jaco) and has a ton of recreation. You can bar hop and the town has been Americanize but with old world culture

This is a good spot to get local info

Here is a blog about Quepos history and some links

I need a recommendation for a good fine dining restaurant in Paris?

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin

Can anyone recommend me a good restaurant in Paris for fine dining. I am not really on a budget I would just like some excellent food.

Thanks in advance.

Tour d’Argent, Le Grand Vefour: very expensive.

For a great meal in a beautiful restaurant I would recommend "Bofinger" – you can google them as they have a website. It’s a great place.

Also, for something really different, try Le Train Bleu, Place Louis Armand at the Gare de Lyon train station. Second Empire decor and absolutely fabulous. You’ll think you’re in a movie! You can also google "Le Train Bleu" for more information.

your favourate meal – and do you prepare it at home yourself or dine out ?

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin

i love buying a roast and preparing it myself in the kitchen to woo the family and get the ‘mmm this is gorgeous’ comments out of them at the dinner table – its like mission accomplished for me, and I take pride in preparing a good roast dinner. Also it allows me to free-load further off my parents hard earned income which pays for my car, my guitar accessories and expensive newly discovered marijuana indulgence…

so do you prepare your favourate meals yourselves, if not, do you prefer dining out ?

Your sooo bad, wish my parents would help me out, im skint and out on my own!!

I do like to prepare meals for my boyf, I like to cook paella and also like to do roasts with my excellent cauliflower cheese – its ammmeeeezing, my boyf said i make the BEST roasters too!!!

I only like to eat steak at home cos I like mine really rare and most places I go over cook it!

City Health Dept says you’re fat & dumb!?

Posted on September 23rd, 2009 by admin

The News Report with Jim Lehrer tonight reported the Seattle Health Dept is requiring dining establishments must list on menus nutritional facts on all items. The thin guy at the Health Dept says this is due to an obesity crisis.
Guess you’ve all gotten fat & too dumb to know anything since I was last in your city.
How do you react when someone (usually an idiot) insists on passing a law rather than utilizing education?

I’m sure Mr. Mike S can walk into any restaraunt, look at an item, and know how many calories it has, or how much fat, or how big a serving it is and how many servings there are.

It’s not that easy. Even the so-called healthy stuff can pack on a ton of calories loaded with fat. Smart people have just as much trouble as idiots tellnig the nutritional content of food when dining out. We don’t measure what ingredients go into the food, so there’s no way for us to know unless they tell us.

I don’t care about the calorie content of a 1/2 pound burger. I know it’s unhealthy. It’s when I eat pasta, or a small serving of fish, or asalad, that I want to know, is the "healthy" food I’m eating REALLY healthy?

Why do fine dining restaurants always ask if you have fine dining experience when you apply for a waitress job?

Posted on September 21st, 2009 by admin

How do you get fine dining experience if they won’t hire anyone who has it? If I am asked this when I apply (and I have no fine dining experience) what do you think I should say back?

Say that you have studied the European apprenticeships by reading and that you will be able to learn the job in 2 weeks or they don’t have to pay you.

In Europe being a waiter was a real career. In America it is something that young people do when they need money. In Europe, you might apprentice for 3 years before you can wait on tables without being supervised. Then you would expect to work that job until you turned 65.

It is not that hard to learn. Serve food from the left, drinks from the right. Never touch a glass with your fingers near the rim. Serve women first. Use a napkin to hold a plate when you place it on the table so your fingers don’t touch the eating surface.

At some point you will have to learn how to carve a turkey at the table-side. And to cook and serve a flambee dessert. You can bribe one of the other waiters to do this. Or you can pay the "captain" a fee for every time he carves for you. He will do it gladly but not for free. The captain is also called the maitre’ d.

So be brave and tell them that you are the best person they will ever hire and you plan to work there a long time.
