If I wanted to open a food oriented business in three years, what would be the best choice?

Posted on November 20th, 2009 by admin

Would it be a Deli, Casual Dining, Bar and Grill, Fast Food, Pizza… What do you think? I am qualified to open many types.

maybe you ought to decide where?
as in what are the top 3 things in real estate? location, location, location.
maybe you don’t want to choose a location that has had 3 businesses fail in the last 3 years, because people just don’t go there.

What is a fine dining restaurant in Indianapolis, IN that is also affordable?

Posted on November 20th, 2009 by admin

I want a restaurant that is fancy, like you should dress up to go and eat there. But I also want it to be affordable and not really expensive. Any ideas?

Well, great environment for reasonable (15-20ish a plate) is PF Chang’s.
Weber Grill is good too if you prefer steaks.

When you dine out at restaurants… are you a good tipper?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

Yes, no (you don’t tip), or you always tip the same amount?

Does it matter if your waitress / waiter is attractive or is it the service?

I tip 20 percent if the service is good. If the service is not good, it goes down from there. It doesn’t matter what the server looks like. It’s definitely the service. The better the service, the better the tip. Also, it doesn’t impress me when people take orders and don’t write them down. Most of the time, something is always forgotten. If the order is not right, the tip goes down also.

But I will say this. My husband and I have gone out to several different places and the waitress does nothing but flirt with him and ignore me. The tip left is usually a penny. And they need to quit calling people hon and honey. I don’t mind when my husband calls me that, but I don’t want to hear it from another female. And don’t hang around our table chit chatting. That’s not part of their job.

But I do not believe in tipping at a buffet. for someone putting a glass of water on my table and some plates. That’s part of their job.

What is your favorite restaurant in New York state and why is it so damn good?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

Anything from fast food up to the finest dining places! What did you order the last time you were there and how was it? Was it prepared right, was it served hot? Were you happy with your seating choices? Did you like the menu selections? Is this where you would normally choose to eat at more often than not?

I love Palo Santo in Brooklyn!

The restaurant itself is in a small brownstone apartment building… When you eat there, you truly feel like you’re eating in someone’s home. The food (Latin) is inventive and delicious, and best of all, it’s not expensive. A many-course tasting menu (the chef only stops serving you when you’re full) costs $45. Yum.

Where should I go in Europe?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

I just reurned from my first Europe trip and fell in love with Amsterdam! I am trying to decide where to go next… I loved the architecture and the blending of cultures. I want my next European destination to include: a laid back atmosphere, lots of cafes and informal dining/shopping options, and beautiful buildings. Where should I go?? Keep in mind, I live in CA and fell in love with Amsterdam!

I love Bergen in Norway… great hanseatic buildings, beautiful nature, quite good food if you are into seafood, several cafes by now and Norwegians take their recreation seriously. But the weather is like Seattle weather…

You might like Paris too. It has great architecture, quite relaxed culture and lots of cafes. My personal favorite in France was the provence region – not a particular city. I found Parisians to be somewhat shallow and obnoxious at times (I think they can be very gender oriented and opinionated).

Rome is nice (lots of history) and so are Sienna, Venice and Florence. Prague, Cesky Krumlov…

Where’s a fun area to live in Nashville?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

I just graduated from UGA and will be moving to Nashville this fall. For anyone familiar with Atlanta… is there an area similar to Buckhead in Nashville? (ie, an area with a lot of bars, dining, and shopping where lots of college grads move to) Or any specific apartment complexes with people around my age? Thanks so much!!

The closest to what you describe is West End (out by Vanderbilt)

The downtown area (near Broadway and the river) has a lot of bars, dining, and shopping, but very little in terms of housing. But, Nashville is different from Atlanta in that it isn’t an hour drive from downtown to the suburbs.

A few years ago, Nashville imposed a three-foot rule for strip clubs.
The clubs got around that rule with the ‘bikini lap dance’

Need a fine dining restaurant in Chicago for a birthday?

Posted on November 17th, 2009 by admin

I currently have a reservation at Moto for my girlfriend’s birthday. But I think that this may be a bit too expensive. I am looking for a Contemporary or Modern restaurant along the lines of Moto. Any suggestions?

Lawry’s Prime Rib is fun and delicious.

Presented for your enjoyment. Feel free to share any I’ve missed. Easy 10 points. If you never served, likely not so funny. This sent to me by a fellow retired Zoomie

Favorite spot to dine—–small restaurants or large national chains?

Posted on November 13th, 2009 by admin

either is fine. Why do you like dinig there? Is it the service and food, just the food , the atmosphere, prices, what?

Small restaurants, definitely. I used to have one, so I support the little guy, not corporations if I can help it. Plus, the food at chains is all the same wherever you go. The recipes are all standardized so you get the same ribs at TGIFridays in Seattle that you get in Miami. Boring. At least the little guys have some variety and things you don’t expect. And they work a lot harder too.
