Where to seat Tea Party guests? Can they be seated at the dining room table?

Posted on November 13th, 2009 by admin

I am hosting my very first champagne/afternoon tea party, I have everything down except where to seat the guests, can they sit at the dining room table, or does it have to be a parlor type setting?
Also, if seated at the dining room table would it be considered a High Tea, and do I need to adjust the time and menu accordingly?

You need to consider your service; if it is not of commanding stature, I would never consider serving a tea at table. The note of formality at such seating requires an impressive service set; more modest service sets are best employed in the casual atmosphere of the parlor.

Where is there a GOOD Karaoke bar in H town or a bar that not a DIVE that has a Karaoke nite that isn’t exp.?

Posted on November 13th, 2009 by admin

I live Uptown/in River Oaks near the Galleria Mall so I don’t want to go anywhere in Pasadena, Conroe, Katy, or Humble etc.

I know this doesn’t count as dining out but i thought I’d get more answers here! They need a Nightlife section.

LIVE downtown has fun karaoke nights… On Friday nights after 10… It’s costs $10 to get in but they give it back to you in coupons for 2 free drinks.
I don’t sing but I love to go watch there! People sing all kinds of music!!
They have food and of course a full bar.

Tavern on Grey (my favorite bar) does it on Tuesdays… I’ve never seen it there because I only sit outside when I go there but the bars great so I imagine their Karaoke would be too!!

Label each of the following situations “P” if it is an example of parametric data or “NP” if it is an example of nonparametric data.

3.A catering company is buying equipment in order to set up their own store. They have a choice of two ovens that they can purchase for the store. The used oven is $100 less than the new oven, but its heating calibration is off by 20 degrees. Which one is a better buy for them? ____
4.Jim Smith owns three real estate offices in Anytown. He has decided to open one more office, but he cannot decide between Hometown or Uptown as the towns where he wants to locate. 5.A study to determine if job absenteeism is distributed evenly over the week. ____
6.Mel’s Diner has been surveying their customers for the past couple of years about their dining experience in the restaurant. 2. From a written survey where the respondents were asked to rate an individual on a scale of 1 to 5, one group rated an individual a 3.7, another group rated the individual a 4.3. Is the difference statistically significant?
It is very significant

The new over is a better bet in the long run

What are the real rules for tipping at restaurants?

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by admin

For many years I’ve heard about the simple rule of tipping 15%. But I’ve also heard it’s 20%. What about cheap restaurants? What about if you’re dining alone? Just think…At a cheap restaurant dining alone you could get out for $10. Surely $1.50 to 2.00 is not enough. So…thoughts on all the different rules you know of?

There ae several things to factor i when you decide the tip amount:

1. Were you greeted promptly and your order taken?
2. Was your waitress attentive and thorough?
3. Was your drink refilled and your table cleared promptly?
4. Was your order correct, and if not, remember the waitress does not cook the food, but did she offer to have the problem fixed for you?
5. Was the bill brought when you asked?

If yes, then a 15-20% tip is considered the normal, but remember, the server only makes $3 per hour, so any tip more than that is greatly appreciated. If your service was substandard, then reduce the tip or talk to the manager.

I am a server myself, adn I try to make sure each customer is treated as I expect to be treated when I go out. I am a very picky customer, because i expect more. But these are just some guidelines to help.

How much should we tip if we have a "kitchen table" in a good restaurant ?

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by admin

Kitchen table is where some good restaurants will offer dining for a very small number of guests (max. 4-6). Guests order the tasting menu, and witness the hubbub of the kitchen activities firsthand, being right in the action. It is not for the fainthearted ! The chef serves the table and will even offer the guests tasting portions of whatever the guests in the main dining room have ordered.

I would assume you have a minimum to sit at the Chef’s table. I think anyone who gets special treatment should tip very well. You will have one of the best dining experiences ever. You will have one of the best servers. And it’s the holidays (so you should be generous). I would say no less than 20% (I don’t know how you normally tip) but, I would leave at least 30%

How do I allow my den, with door/window cut outs that face into the dining room, to double as a spare room? ?

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by admin

The den has a cut out door with pass through windows on either side of it. I’d like to make the room double as a den/office/spare guest room and need ideas on how to enclose it in without actually closing the space in. I was considering a cafe door or informal french doors and plantation blinds for the window cut outs. Does this make sense for an interior room with no "true" windows? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

1] do french doors with multiple panes – you can even get sliding [ pocket ] ones!
2] mount blinds above doors/windows, for privacy when needed.

what is standard height from counter-top bar to bottom of mini-pendant light?

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by admin

should it be the same height as dining table which is about 32 inches?

30 inches is standard – 32 inches is fine. you don’t want seated patrons or family burning themselves especially if they are halogen lamps.

Would you dine at a benihana type of restaurant alone?

Posted on November 10th, 2009 by admin

I am on business and there is a favorite restaurant of mine here where people watch the chef cook in front of them, i am just hesitant to go alone. Ive dined alone before, but never at this type of restaurant. Im fairly confident I will be okay if i go for a late lunch, where its not too crowded. what do you think???

I have gone to Benihana’s alone several times and have not had any problems. It is a nice experience practicing striking up a conversation with total strangers. Now for the time, if you have not done this before you might want to stick to a busy time like during dinner. During lunch people are lin a hurry and tend not to talk. Early or late meal you may have a partial table and, I feel that the best way to enjoy this type of restaurant is with a crowd, it just doesn’t matter if you knwo these people or not.
