Where in Houston can I find a carpenter to shorten some dining chair legs?

I basically have a high bar stool type dining set, which feels too high. I would like to have the chairs (and maybe even the table) shortened to bring it down to a normal feel. Where and who in Houston offers these services? All help would be appreciated.
Also, an ideas on how much it would cost?

I have a 2 story home. Above the Kitchen is walk in Attic and above the dining room is a bedroom. On the opposite side of the dining is a foyer that with stairs and 20 ceiling.

a partition wall is usually 5 inches, while a load bearing wall is thicker. if this wall runs all the way through your home on all levels and is thicker than 5 inches, then it may be a bearing wall.

I’m trying to get opinions on the absolute best neighborhood to choose. I am looking for the best in terms of proximity to subway, nearby interesting sites and dining, bars and clubs, etc.

This is vague, but give it a shot if you will.

Well, I truly love my own neighborhood (Park Slope, Brooklyn) but I think if money was really no object, I would want to live in the West Village or on the Upper West Side.

I have an ashtray from a resturant in New York…Market Dining Rooms And Bar ….does anyone know ?

I just googled the name and I read something about it being in the concourse of the world trade center…it was an article from the late 80’s in the NYtimes…So maybe it is worth some sort of money.

Need help stabilizing a breakfast bar?

I recently had a breakfast bar installed in my kitchen and it is not very stable. There was a 5 1/2 foot wall between my kitchen and dining room that was cut down and a Corian countertop installed. The original wall was attached to another wall at one end and was free standing (ended at an entryway) at the other end. There are brackets supporting the top and it is securely fastened to the wall but the whole wall wobles. Is there any way to stabilize this without adding a leg?

I have resolved issues like this before. Using about 3 foot long sections of threaded rod.

How to make an easy tuna salad?

I know how to make tuna but mine never looks like the one that’s on the salad bar when dining out. It’s always darker. How do I make mine look and taste like it?

Ingredients
Can of tuna
Left-over vegetables
Condiments, for example mayonnaise, cocktail sauce etc
Dried spices or herbs

Step 1 Chop your left-over vegetables to a pretty small size (onions, bell pepper, celery and lettuce are all favorites) and put the chopped pieces into a bowl.

Step 2 Open your can of tuna, drain the oil or water out and add the tuna to the bowl.

Step 3 Add about four tablespoons of sauce (favorites include mayonnaise, salsa, mustard and cocktail sauce). Try combining two for a new flavor. If you have them, cut up two hard-boiled eggs and add them to your bowl.

Step 4 Add some salt and season to taste with favorite herbs (try chili powder or dill).

Step 5 Mix everything together and chill for a few hours before serving.

a table w/6 chairs. These were damaged in water , bought in 1965and need an idea for insurance purposes. They were made by Unique Furniture Makers of Winston–Salem NC.

Your insurance company will only allow a certain book allowance for this. Talk to them and see what they will allow … if you have replacement insurance, then don’t worry about it…just replace it and they will give you the money back.

Is the logic that more non-smokers are going to frequent bars, casinos & dining establishments to replace the smokers? Or do you naively believe that smokers "will see the light" & join hands singing "Cumbah yah!!"
Is there any freedom such as an exception for private clubs?

The plan’s goal appears to be to shame and restrict smokers so heavily that they will be so miserable socially they will quit.

You can not even volunteer at a hospital or hospice if you’re a smoker (even if you don’t smoke on the job). That isn’t going to work.

I don’t think it will help businesses, at least not in the short term. And I agree that business owners should have the right to set their own rules, just as a person who owns a home can set their own personal rules of what goes on under their roof.

I’m the purchasing agent at the casino.
I buy all of the food.
Guess I’m more interested to know what other purchasers % averages or what their target % is.

I had a friend who was a Purchasing Agent and she belonged to a Professional Organization for Procurement Managers. I would think someone in that type of club could answer your question better than I could.

I was at a restaraunt yesterday, and was dining at the bar. I hit it off with the bartender, but I felt kind of wierd asking for her number while she was working. I also meet alot of cool waitresses and feel the same way…..So how do I flirt and get their number while they are working?

WELL FLIRT WHILE THEY ARE WAITING ON YOU AND THEN SIMPLY LEAVE THEM YOUR NUMBER WITH THE TIP.
