How do I know is the Wall Between the Kitchen and Dining Room is load barring?

Posted on January 26th, 2010 by admin

I have a 2 story home. Above the Kitchen is walk in Attic and above the dining room is a bedroom. On the opposite side of the dining is a foyer that with stairs and 20 ceiling.

a partition wall is usually 5 inches, while a load bearing wall is thicker. if this wall runs all the way through your home on all levels and is thicker than 5 inches, then it may be a bearing wall.

Just a good guess. A load bearing wall will run parallel to the center of the house. Any walls that run to the outside walls are not load bearing. Center walls will help support the roof.
