Favorite spot to dine—–small restaurants or large national chains?

either is fine. Why do you like dinig there? Is it the service and food, just the food , the atmosphere, prices, what?
Small restaurants, definitely. I used to have one, so I support the little guy, not corporations if I can help it. Plus, the food at chains is all the same wherever you go. The recipes are all standardized so you get the same ribs at TGIFridays in Seattle that you get in Miami. Boring. At least the little guys have some variety and things you don’t expect. And they work a lot harder too.

Small restaraunts. I think the quality of food and service is usually better. I like family owned restaraunts a lot because those recipes have probably been perfected over generations. Plus, when something is family owned, the atmosphere is super.

The Coffee House. I live in a small town and it’s privately owned. I love the atmosphere and the food<3.

Interesting question. There can be arguements on both sides for both types of restaurants.
Small restaurants are so pleasant because of being individually owned. They seem to reflect the owner. My new fave place in town is called "Aloha Sushi". They serve sushi (of course), teriyaki and have wine, beer, and sake! Sake is important with sushi I have found. They make a yummy California Long Roll with crab, cucumber, avocado & sprouts. The Godzilla Long Roll is yellowtail, salmon, cream cheese, tempura finish and it’s quite good too. The service is excellent as is the food. The atmosphere, the prices, etc. are nice. Oh and the Gyoza, Japanese style pot stickers are great. (I did want to point out that this is individually owned & is not part of a chain.)
You are a rib guy so I’m thinking you are not a sushi fan! Am I right?

When I’m at home, small restaurants. They have good atmosphere and it’s nice when the waiters and waitresses know you.
However, when I travel to large cities, I love going to large national chains, just to taste the food. The large chains I’ve been to generall have a more sophisticated atmosphere. My fave large restaurant is the Cheesecake Factory, so I make a point of going to it whenver I’m in a city that has one.
